De esta manera se deja un estado del arte, que contextualiza la exigencia de infraestructura del campus universitario de la UCP entorno a una red WLAN (Wireless Local Area Network). Mediante la consulta de diferentes fuentes bibliográficas, se obtuvo información del estándar; permitiendo conocer su evolución, sus ventajas, la seguridad que ofrecen a una red, su fiabilidad y la calidad del servicio (Quality of Service); éste último como elemento diferenciador en cuanto administración de la red. A través de un trabajo de campo, se recolecta la información suficiente para diagnosticar e identificar los problemas actuales de la red inalámbrica del campus universitario, se hallan falencias, y así mismo se establece cual sería el estándar idóneo para rediseñar e implementar en el campus universitario. Finalmente, el rediseño de la red ajustado a las necesidades y exigencias que este amerita, será acompañado de una propuesta que contempla como resultado final, una red que ofrece movilidad, desplazamiento, fácil acceso, mayor rendimiento en la transferencia de datos y configurada de tal manera que sea lo más amigable posible para su administración. /Abstract: This work presents the 802.11 standard, in such a way as to obtain enough knowledge to understand how it was created, how it works and ther evolution. This work will leave a state of art, which contextualizes the infrastructure requirement of the UCP campus environment network to WLAN (Wireless Local Area Network). By consulting different literature sources, information about the standard was obtained, allowing to take a look to the evolution network, their benefits, the security provided to a network, reliability and quality of service (Quality of Service), this last element as a differentiator in the network management. Through a field work, enough information collected to diagnose and identify the current problems of the campus wireless network, the failures and weakness, so we can set the standard which would be appropriate to redesign and be implemented on campus.
