There were used mainly data basis and online journals specialized in the subject. There was found that the conventional therapy models lead a side the neuropsychological aspect implied in the addiction process and relapse of heroin user. Some neuropsychological models take in count working together with conventional therapy win emphasis in the rehabilitation of cognitive functions that have been damaged by the use of psychoactive substances. The integration of these two approaches could generate a higher rate of success in the addiction treatment.Se realizó una revisión bibliográfica de los modelos de terapia, tanto convencional como neuropsicológica, aplicados a usuarios de sustancias psicoactivas (usuarios de heroína) para describir las características de dichos modelos. Se utilizaron principalmente bases de datos y revistas electrónicas especializadas en la materia. Se encontró que los modelos de terapia convencional dejan de lado el aspecto neuropsicológico implicado en el proceso de adicción y de recaída del usuario de heroína. Algunos modelos neuropsicológicos toman en cuenta el trabajo en conjunto con terapia convencional con énfasis en la rehabilitación de funciones cognitivas que se han visto dañadas por el uso de sustancias psicoactivas.
