Esto genera dos problemáticas: las relacionadas a la enfermedad y las producidas por el estigma, representando estas últimas las de más difícil manejo. Este estigma se encuentra también en los profesionales sanitarios. El objetivo de este estudio es conocer el nivel de familiaridad hacia la enfermedad mental y las actitudes hacia estas en estudiantes de psicología. Se aplicó el Cuestionario sobre el nivel de familiaridad hacia la enfermedad mental y el Cuestionario de actitudes de la comunidad hacia las personas con enfermedad mental (CAMI), el cual dispone de 4 subescalas (autoritarismo, benevolencia, restricción social e ideología en salud mental comunitaria). La muestra estuvo conformada por 100 estudiantes (81 mujeres y 19 hombres) de diferentes semestres. El 75% de los estudiantes refiere haber estado en contacto con personas con alguna enfermedad mental, de los cuales la mayoría (29%) lo había estado porque es un pariente quien padece la enfermedad. En cuanto a lo obtenido por el CAMI, se encuentra que las puntuaciones más representativas corresponden a la dimensión de autoritarismo, seguida de la restricción social; lo que indica una inclinación en los estudiantes a considerar a las personas con enfermedad mental como sujetos inferiores y peligrosos. Abstract: People affected by mental illness go through stigmatization and discrimination processes. This generates two problems: those related to the disease and those caused by stigma, stigma represents a difficult management. Stigma is found also in health professionals. This study aims to know the level of familiarity towards mental illness and the attitudes towards them in psychology students. For the study it was applied the questionnaire of familiarity towards mental illness and the Questionnaire on attitudes of the community towards people with mental illness (CAMI), which has 4 subscales (authoritarianism, benevolence, social restriction and ideology in community mental health). The sample consisted of 100 students (81 women and 19 men) from different semesters. 75% of students report having been in contact with people with mental illness, of which the majority (29%) had been because they have a relative with mental illness.
