Este artículo busca principalmente describir cuáles son las prácticas sociales de consumo de energía eléctrica llevadas a cabo por los habitantes del municipio de Zarzal, Valle del Cauca y su relación con los costos de facturación. Contiene una breve descripción de tres elementos conceptuales como lo son las prácticas sociales, el consumo de energía y el uso racional y eficiente de la energía, que brindan la coherencia teórica al estudio. La ruta metodológica propuesta para abordar la investigación está basada en un enfoque mixto, se enmarca en el tipo de estudio explicativo con diseño de investigación explicativo secuencial (DEXPLIS). A modo de conclusión, se determinó que es necesario generar procesos de formación para la comunidad zarzaleña relacionados con el uso racional y eficiente de energía, orientándolo como un proceso consciente mediado por la racionalización, donde los usuarios finales tengan en cuenta que deben empezar a implementar cambios en las prácticas sociales de consumo de energía, para disminuir los costos de facturación de este servicio y contribuir con el medio ambiente. Abstract: The analysis of the phenomenon of energy consumption from that of social practices makes it possible to establish a channel of communication and meaning between the subjective and the social, to assume the users of the energy service as key actors in the transformation of their social practices as a result of an awareness of the economic, social and environmental impact that these have not only on their lives, but also on the environment they inhabit and the people with whom they coexist. This article seeks mainly to describe the social practices of electrical energy consumption carried out by the inhabitants of the municipality of Zarzal Valle del Cauca and their relationship with billing costs. It contains a brief description of three conceptual elements such as social practices, energy consumption and rational and efficient use of energy that provide the theoretical coherence to the study. The proposed methodological route to approach the research is based on a mixed approach, it is framed in the type of explanatory study with sequential explanatory research design (DEXPLIS). As a conclusion, it was determined that it is necessary to generate training processes for the Zarzuela community related to the rational and efficient use of energy, orienting it as a conscious process mediated by rationalization, where the end users take into account that they must begin to implement changes in the social practices of energy consumption, in order to reduce the costs of billing this service and contribute to the environment.Universidad Católica de Pereira.
