Siendo el arbolado protagonista fundamental en el diseño urbano, por lo que forja la denominada “sombra urbana”, definida como el efecto de penumbra que refleja un árbol urbano <aquel que estando ubicado a la intemperie y siendo primordialmente de utilidad pública, incide en el ambiente de una ciudad, ya sea integrado a ésta en la calle, o en zonas de interfase urbano/forestal> (Novelo, 2009); la selección de las especies indicadas de acuerdo a las condiciones climáticas y exigencias del lugar, se determina en consideración al estudio y/o análisis del territorio y las necesidades de sus habitantes, en este caso, el requerimiento de sombras permanentes que permitan protegerse de la incidencia directa de los rayos del sol para disfrutar del espacio público en un clima cálido húmedo tropical situado en la región andina de Colombia, con características particulares propias del sitio, soportando las inclemencias de la radiación solar en una temperatura promedio de 30°C. Aparte de sombras, el arbolado es aprovechable para ayudar a filtrar aire, agua, luz solar y ruidos; con la particularidad de enfriar el ambiente disminuyendo la isla de calor urbana y con ello, ofrecer confort en áreas destinadas a la recreación de sus habitantes, puesto que el sombreado agradable de calles y parques atrae a la socialización y al juego. Por ello, una estrategia para mejorar el espacio público en el caso de Caimalito Risaralda, sería entre otras, aprovechar las áreas libres para la creación e integración de hábitats nuevos con aquellos del entorno natural existentes que promuevan la conservación y re-naturalización del paisaje mediante el uso de arborización nativa, huertas urbanas y jardines ecológicos, suscitando que la planificación en concertación con la comunidad sea factor importante para obtener resultados positivos en la consecución del propósito: la generación de sombras urbanas apropiadas.Abstrat:Currently the line of research in the field of architecture and urban planning has a bioclimatic emphasis, therefore, this article points to the importance of the use of suitable tree species to generate favorable shadows in the public space of the hot humid tropical Andean climate, taking as reference the urban area of Caimalito Risaralda, Colombia. Apart from shadows, the trees can be used to help filter air, water, sunlight and noise; with the particularity of cooling the environment by reducing the urban heat island and thereby offering comfort in areas intended for recreation for its inhabitants, since the pleasant shading of streets and parks attracts socialization and play.
