This is an absolute requirement for reconciliation in Colombia. There is not peace without mourning, there is not mourning without truth, and there is not truth without memory. In that process, art plays a capital role because it transmutes memory and the experience of the mourners into artistic expressions, it is to say, into languages which, even if they are based on victims’ crude reality, also take some distance from it, supported by their own symbolic and abstract elements, own of their nature. By saying that art plays a major role in the development of mourning, also it wants to say that, despite its importance, the grief is not made only through art.El presente artículo abordará la puesta a prueba de la siguiente hipótesis: la danza en particular y las artes en general, junto a factores de otra naturaleza, median entre las víctimas de un conflicto y la sociedad en donde él ocurre creando las condiciones necesarias para que las víctimas sobrevivientes elaboren el duelo. Este es un requisito sine qua non para la reconciliación en Colombia. No hay paz sin duelo, no hay duelo sin verdad, no hay verdad sin memoria. En ese proceso, el arte cumple un papel capital, pues transmuta la memoria y la experiencia de los dolientes en expresiones artísticas, es decir, en lenguajes que, si bien parten de la realidad cruda de las víctimas, se distancian de ella al estar dotados de elementos simbólicos y abstractos, propios de su naturaleza.
