Description
Summary:The present study was aimed at implementing methodological strategies based on meaningful learning in the teaching-learning process of the fifth grade students of ¨Institución Educativa Ciudadela de Occidente¨. Also, it was a field research of descriptive and proactive sort which used as techniques and instruments the direct observation, the structured type interview (opened or in depth), and questionnaires. The population consisted of 80 students, who belonged to the groups of 5th A and 5th B grades. In the first stage, a diagnosis was made through a survey to know the status of the issue; the findings became antecedents of a second stage of research, further developed in an intervention plan that was aimed to implement practices of laboratory in Natural Science classes based on motivation, cooperative work and creativity in order to generate meaningful learning. In analyzing the results, the comparison of the data obtained from the groups 5th A (with lab practices) and 5th B (without lab practices) revealed evidence of positive advances in group 5th A; with 70 % of favorable outcomes in each questionnaire concluding that in the experiments, building projects and interaction of students during the practices led them to boost learning significantly. According to what was stated before, the application of methodological strategies based on meaningful learning is effective because it allows strengthening student’s motivation, which becomes a stimulus for students to participate actively in the teaching-learning process developed in the classroom; consequently, this has a decisive influence on the results obtained in their school performance.
