Summary: | This dissertation reflects upon different intercultural manifestations in the bilingual classes of four groups from basic courses at the Modern Languages Bachelor’s Degree Program at Universidad del Quindío, Colombia. It is characterized by a qualitative micro ethnographic case study approach. This Work is framed within core concepts such as bilingualism, culture, identity and cultural identity, intercultural competence and cultural conceptualizations; the latter as proposed by Sharifian (2012). Cultural manifestations were evident in the oral interactions of the participants in two dimensions; one, the awareness of the professors observed in front of the relevance of including intercultural elements in their classes, and two, the persistency of the participants to make evident different cultural conceptualizations in the target language with the guidance of the teacher. One of the conclusions of this work was that in the observed classes the participants insisted on manifesting their beliefs, customs and other cultural elements of the foreign language, without being so conscious about the inherent elements of the target language |
