Summary:In this research a study on the use of social networking sites and their influence on the academic performance of students in grade fifth of the school Rufino Jose Cuervo South was held Mother See Marcelina of Armenia, the sample or population study the Fifth graders D and E. Fifth Total students per course were was 37. A survey determined that 34 students of the first and 33 the second course answered that use them. This work was carried out in three phases: the diagnostic phase where it was determined by an applied survey, the group of students who use social networks and how long they last made this practice. In addition to teachers and parents were surveyed, then the field phase and observation which is where made to each student is tracked for two academic periods and the information provided was analyzed by students, parents and teachers. In the third phase the academic results of the group of students who use social networking sites were analyzed, taking into account the results, we conclude that Facebook and WhatsApp are the most used by them. Analyzing the notes and performance obtained by the students who use, social networks do not affect the academic performance of students who participated in the project.
