Description
Summary:The economy of the Quindio's department has depended on the agricultural sector, the coffee crisis in the late twentieth century has led farmers to adopt plantain farming as a primary production alternative. Due to importance of this crop for the department, the productivity of the Dominico-Harton veriety was evaluated under different cropping systems. In order to do this investigation, 32 farms were visited; In each place the field operations were determined in order to establish the type of crop management and according to this, the productivity of 5 plants per farm was estimated. For this, biomass produced by the plant was determined through the indirect method (Allometric equation) and the direct method (Harvesting); additionally, the mass produced by the fruit was specified. After that, analyse of variance was made to contrast the differences between cropping systems and the biomass and fruit production variables. The allometric’s coefficient of determination was estimated and principal component analyses was made. Significant differences were found in terms of fruit mass between the different cropping systems using both methods, nevertheless, the data per system was different in each method. Only a pattern was found, it was that the AA system showed high averages for biomass and production of fruit variables, an argument for it is that agroforestry systems helps in the nutrients fixation in soil and improve the dynamics of it . The alometric equation’s coefficient of determination was 0,472, this result disagrees with other reasearches, where coefficients has been close to the 90%, this suggest a new allometric equation with explaining variables
