En este sentido la solución al anterior interrogante se hizo a través una investigación cuantitativa de tipo deductivo en la cual se aplica un conjunto de métodos econométricos tomando como fuente de información la Gran Encuesta Integrada de Hogares (GEIH) del tercer trimestre de los años 2008 y 2013. Para lo cual se pretende caracterizar los mercados laborales del área urbana y rural del departamento haciendo uso de la estadística descriptiva, luego se estima el índice propuesto por Harris & Todaro y por último se realiza un análisis del perfil y los determinantes de los ingresos de los trabajadores de ambas áreas utilizando la ecuación Minceriana, para la aplicación de estos métodos estadísticos y econométricos se hizo uso del Software Stata 11.0.
