description The role of facades is fundamental to determine the energy performance of a building. According to the properties of construction elements, the heat transfer towards the interior can be strategically controlled to avoid increases in energy demand by the cooling system. The development of insulating products can solve this problem. In Norte de Santander, Colombia, the thriving clay industry is based on raw material quality. This paper designs and validates the thermal behavior of two proposed ventilated bricks, called eco Design. The thermal validation was fulfilled using the ANSYS R16 software to simulate the transfer and heat fluxes according to shape and material. The best performance was achieved by an extruded process to determine the mechanical properties on a laboratory scale in different mixtures with technological additives. The results show that the ventilated air chamber can reduce the inner surface temperature up to 45.5 °F. Nevertheless, the strength of these new products is considerably reduced compared to traditional multi-perforated brick.

Según las propiedades de los elementos constructivos, la transferencia de calor hacia el interior se puede controlar de manera estratégica para evitar aumentos en la demanda de energía por parte del sistema de refrigeración. Para este fin, el desarrollo de productos aislantes puede ser la solución. En el departamento de Norte de Santander, Colombia, la pujante industria de la arcilla se basa en la calidad de las materias primas. En el presente trabajo, se diseña y se valida el comportamiento térmico de dos ladrillos ventilados propuestos, denominados eco Design. La validación térmica se realizó mediante el software ANSYS R16 para simular la transferencia y los flujos de calor según la forma y el material. El mejor desempeño se logró a través de un proceso de extrusión para determinar las propiedades mecánicas a escala de laboratorio en diferentes mezclas y con aditivos tecnológicos. Los resultados muestran que la cámara de aire ventilada puede reducir la temperatura de la superficie interior hasta 45,5 °F.
