Its treatment has several limitations, and the search for new active molecules is necessary. Objective: To evaluate the antifungal and cytotoxic potential of Eugenia caryophyllusessential oil (EO), eugenol, isoeugenol and methylisoeugenol against Microsporum canis, M. gypseum and Vero cells. Methods: The EO was extracted by conventional heating-assisted hydrodistillation, the eugenol obtained commercially and the derivatives through Williamson synthe-sis. Minimal inhibitory concentration (MICs), minimum fungicidal concentration, inhi-bition of radial mycelial growth and germination inhibition were used to evaluate the antifungal activity. In addition, a colorimetric test was conducted to evaluate cyto-toxic activity. Results: MIC and MFC values for all compounds were 62.5-500 μg/mL for both of the species of Microsporum evaluated. Also, concentrations of 300 μg/mL of the compounds inhibited 100% of M. canis mycelium. The inhibition of germination was observed after 6 hours of treatment (11.86 ± 3.46-85.31 ± 0%). No cytotoxicity was observed in Vero cells (CC50 > 105 μg/mL), whereas terbinafine showed CC5031.00 ± 0.61 μg/mL.Conclusions: Our study indicates an interesting bioactivity of isoeugenol and meth-ylisoeugenol against M. canis, M. gypseum and mammalian cells.application/pdf10.1111/myc.128441439-05070933-7407https://repositorio.udes.edu.co/handle/001/3117engMycosesDerechos Reservados - Blackwell Verlag GmbH, 2019info:eu-repo/semantics/openAccessAtribución-NoComercial 4.0 Internacional (CC BY-NC 4.0)https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc/4.0/http://purl.org/coar/access_right/c_abf2https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/pdf/10.1111/myc.12844CytotoxicityEugenolIsoeugenolMethylisoeugenolMicrosporum canisMicrosporum gypseumIn vitro susceptibility of Microsporum spp. and mammalian cells to Eugenia caryophyllus essential oil, eugenol and semisynthetic derivativesArtículo de revistahttp://purl.org/coar/resource_type/c_6501http://purl.org/coar/resource_type/c_2df8fbb1Textinfo:eu-repo/semantics/articlehttp://purl.org/redcol/resource_type/ARTinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersionhttp://purl.org/coar/version/c_970fb48d4fbd8a85PublicationTHUMBNAILIn vitro susceptibility of Microsporum spp. and mammalian cells to Eugenia caryophyllus essential oil, eugenol and semisynthetic derivatives.pdf.jpgIn vitro susceptibility of Microsporum spp. and mammalian cells to Eugenia caryophyllus essential oil, eugenol and semisynthetic derivatives.pdf.jpgGenerated Thumbnailimage/jpeg1774https://repositorio.udes.edu.co/bitstreams/20222009-55cf-42b2-bf22-2e4331e1ab4a/download32c791950813a597d2548f35a4c6cb7bMD54TEXTIn vitro susceptibility of Microsporum spp. and mammalian cells to Eugenia caryophyllus essential oil, eugenol and semisynthetic derivatives.pdf.txtIn vitro susceptibility of Microsporum spp. and mammalian cells to Eugenia caryophyllus essential oil, eugenol and semisynthetic derivatives.pdf.txtExtracted texttext/plain45887https://repositorio.udes.edu.co/bitstreams/05dd59c0-f3d8-4308-a73f-d3bb70ca0caa/download7103a19210c3d4bd5ab644e3ebd0551dMD53LICENSElicense.txtlicense.txttext/plain; charset=utf-859https://repositorio.udes.edu.co/bitstreams/f087e3ff-d887-47d0-b57c-563c97bb448d/download38d94cf55aa1bf2dac1a736ac45c881cMD52ORIGINALIn vitro susceptibility of Microsporum spp. and mammalian cells to Eugenia caryophyllus essential oil, eugenol and semisynthetic derivatives.pdfIn vitro susceptibility of Microsporum spp. and mammalian cells to Eugenia caryophyllus essential oil, eugenol and semisynthetic derivatives.pdfDocumento Principalapplication/pdf1119082https://repositorio.udes.edu.co/bitstreams/ce2630b1-b16b-46c8-82a4-d941687963d9/downloadce7640a52ef381d65d9f893d8c37cf63MD51001/3117oai:repositorio.udes.edu.co:001/31172023-10-10 09:57:04.053https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc/4.0/Derechos Reservados - Blackwell Verlag GmbH, 2019https://repositorio.udes.edu.coRepositorio Universidad de Santandersoporte@metabiblioteca.comTGljZW5jaWEgZGUgUHVibGljYWNpw7NuIFVERVMKRGlyZWN0cmljZXMgZGUgVVNPIHkgQUNDRVNPCgo=
