However, no studies have investigated whether meaningful information can be extracted by quantifying second-order moments of time-varying cardiovascular complexity. To this extent, we introduce a novel mathematical framework termed complexity variability, in which the variance of instantaneous Lyapunov spectra estimated over time serves as a reference quantifier. We apply the proposed methodology to four exemplary studies involving disorders which stem from cardiology, neurology and psychiatry: Congestive Heart Failure (CHF), Major Depression Disorder (MDD), Parkinson’s Disease (PD), and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) patients with insomnia under a yoga training regime. We show that complexity assessments derived from simple time-averaging are not able to discern pathology-related changes in autonomic control, and we demonstrate that between-group differences in measures of complexity variability are consistent across pathologies. Pathological states such as CHF, MDD, and PD are associated with an increased complexity variability when compared to healthy controls, whereas wellbeing derived from yoga in PTSD is associated with lower time-variance of complexity.application/pdf10.1038/srep427792045-2322https://repositorio.udes.edu.co/handle/001/3212engScientific ReportsDerechos Reservados - Universidad de Santander, 2017info:eu-repo/semantics/openAccessAtribución-NoComercial 4.0 Internacional (CC BY-NC 4.0)https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc/4.0/http://purl.org/coar/access_right/c_abf2https://www.nature.com/articles/srep42779.pdfCardiovascularControlComplexity Variability Assessment of Nonlinear Time-Varying Cardiovascular ControlArtículo de revistahttp://purl.org/coar/resource_type/c_6501http://purl.org/coar/resource_type/c_2df8fbb1Textinfo:eu-repo/semantics/articlehttp://purl.org/redcol/resource_type/ARTinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersionhttp://purl.org/coar/version/c_970fb48d4fbd8a85PublicationTHUMBNAILComplexity Variability Assessment of Nonlinear Time-Varying Cardiovascular Control.pdf.jpgComplexity Variability Assessment of Nonlinear Time-Varying Cardiovascular Control.pdf.jpgGenerated Thumbnailimage/jpeg1906https://repositorio.udes.edu.co/bitstreams/2cecddad-45eb-43aa-bd64-94882e851520/download5c48e35b43a1b14a6380a119037415b0MD54LICENSElicense.txtlicense.txttext/plain; charset=utf-859https://repositorio.udes.edu.co/bitstreams/d2d4bdfe-a475-4cf1-afa7-0abb5b8f409f/download38d94cf55aa1bf2dac1a736ac45c881cMD52ORIGINALComplexity Variability Assessment of Nonlinear Time-Varying Cardiovascular Control.pdfComplexity Variability Assessment of Nonlinear Time-Varying Cardiovascular Control.pdfapplication/pdf296694https://repositorio.udes.edu.co/bitstreams/1e1b9e95-a587-4826-acb0-2e927520c6ca/download8e3beda5bfb5d3d1035b232fe892d241MD55TEXTComplexity Variability Assessment of Nonlinear Time-Varying Cardiovascular Control.pdf.txtComplexity Variability Assessment of Nonlinear Time-Varying Cardiovascular Control.pdf.txtExtracted texttext/plain76449https://repositorio.udes.edu.co/bitstreams/021fb453-74ba-49e0-a24c-b1e7f44d0d4a/download10bac29c5b1a45e848c96497f4daa07eMD53001/3212oai:repositorio.udes.edu.co:001/32122023-10-10 13:16:05.094https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc/4.0/Derechos Reservados - Universidad de Santander, 2017https://repositorio.udes.edu.coRepositorio Universidad de Santandersoporte@metabiblioteca.comTGljZW5jaWEgZGUgUHVibGljYWNpw7NuIFVERVMKRGlyZWN0cmljZXMgZGUgVVNPIHkgQUNDRVNPCgo=
