In contrast, the recent transition of the economic model experienced by developing countries, characterized by the adoption of a Western lifestyle, that we have named ‘‘socioeconomic pathology,’’ has led to an increase in the burden of CVD. It has been demonstrated that conventional cardiovascular risk factors in developed and developing countries are the same. Why then does the population of developing countries currently have a higher incidence of CVD than that of developed countries if they share the same risk factors? We have proposed the existence of a higher susceptibility to the development of systemic inflammation at low levels of abdominal obesity in the population of developing countries and the consequent endothelial dysfunction, insulin resistance, DM 2, and CVD. In contrast, an important percentage of obese people living in developed countries have a healthy phenotype and low risk of developing CVD and DM 2. Human epidemiologic studies and experimental dietary interventions in animal models have provided considerable evidence to suggest that nutritional imbalance and metabolic disturbances early in life may later have a persistent effect on an adult’s health that may even be transmitted to the next generations. Epigenetic changes dependent on nutrition could be key in this evolutionary health behavior, acting as a buffering system, permitting the adaptation to environmental conditions by silencing or increasing the expression of certain genes.application/pdf10.1097/MJT.0b013e318164bf9c1536-36861075-2765https://repositorio.udes.edu.co/handle/001/3689engAmerican Journal of TherapeuticsAmerican Journal of Therapeutics;Vol. 15 (4), pp. 362-372. 2008Derechos Reservados - American Journal of Therapeutics, 2008info:eu-repo/semantics/openAccessAtribución-NoComercial 4.0 Internacional (CC BY-NC 4.0)https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc/4.0/http://purl.org/coar/access_right/c_abf2https://journals.lww.com/americantherapeutics/fulltext/2008/07000/Are_Nutrition_Induced_Epigenetic_Changes_the_Link.14.aspx#pdf-linkObesityMetabolic syndromeEpigeneticAdaptive responseSocioeconomic pathologyAre nutrition-induced epigenetic changes the link between socioeconomic pathology and cardiovascular diseases?Artículo de revistahttp://purl.org/coar/resource_type/c_6501http://purl.org/coar/resource_type/c_2df8fbb1Textinfo:eu-repo/semantics/articlehttp://purl.org/redcol/resource_type/ARTinfo:eu-repo/semantics/drafthttp://purl.org/coar/version/c_b1a7d7d4d402bccePublicationORIGINALAre nutrition-induced epigenetic changes the link between socioeconomic pathology and cardiovascular diseases.docx.pdfAre nutrition-induced epigenetic changes the link between socioeconomic pathology and cardiovascular diseases.docx.pdfapplication/pdf281588https://repositorio.udes.edu.co/bitstreams/c0ad29ba-d357-4b6e-9229-0c8130de8c7d/downloadee4f2dfe30f8aa7551dc3395424d32c2MD55LICENSElicense.txtlicense.txttext/plain; charset=utf-859https://repositorio.udes.edu.co/bitstreams/8f8a9afe-43d0-42dc-9a7c-df44acbb8d7e/download38d94cf55aa1bf2dac1a736ac45c881cMD52TEXTAre nutrition-induced epigenetic changes the link between socioeconomic pathology and cardiovascular diseases.pdf.txtAre nutrition-induced epigenetic changes the link between socioeconomic pathology and cardiovascular diseases.pdf.txtExtracted texttext/plain48249https://repositorio.udes.edu.co/bitstreams/599270a5-87f7-4d0d-93fb-0a9f5d8aad83/download19986f6ecc9d6eb3418f6136b1d949b4MD53Are nutrition-induced epigenetic changes the link between socioeconomic pathology and cardiovascular diseases.docx.pdf.txtAre nutrition-induced epigenetic changes the link between socioeconomic pathology and cardiovascular diseases.docx.pdf.txtExtracted texttext/plain2https://repositorio.udes.edu.co/bitstreams/44c74f4a-9ce2-433a-acf5-825501e16fa6/downloadd784fa8b6d98d27699781bd9a7cf19f0MD56THUMBNAILAre nutrition-induced epigenetic changes the link between socioeconomic pathology and cardiovascular diseases.pdf.jpgAre nutrition-induced epigenetic changes the link between socioeconomic pathology and cardiovascular diseases.pdf.jpgGenerated Thumbnailimage/jpeg1737https://repositorio.udes.edu.co/bitstreams/9374b440-c503-495f-83c8-7cfceedff591/downloadf4e7eab5069ebef7f2ffc8613c5bbe39MD54Are nutrition-induced epigenetic changes the link between socioeconomic pathology and cardiovascular diseases.docx.pdf.jpgAre nutrition-induced epigenetic changes the link between socioeconomic pathology and cardiovascular diseases.docx.pdf.jpgGenerated Thumbnailimage/jpeg1452https://repositorio.udes.edu.co/bitstreams/845cd3c6-9455-40ed-b9a0-a0b8a9610db9/downloadd019e8704b6fdf3dfc3182220bcea791MD57001/3689oai:repositorio.udes.edu.co:001/36892023-10-10 08:47:11.191https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc/4.0/Derechos Reservados - American Journal of Therapeutics, 2008https://repositorio.udes.edu.coRepositorio Universidad de Santandersoporte@metabiblioteca.comTGljZW5jaWEgZGUgUHVibGljYWNpw7NuIFVERVMKRGlyZWN0cmljZXMgZGUgVVNPIHkgQUNDRVNPCgo= |
