A cross-sectional study was conducted on 135 women between 50 and 90 years of age who were referred for the follow-up evaluations of HGS using dynamometry and the Tinetti scale to determine the risk of falls. The mean age was 68.8 ± 8.5 years. A total of 31.9% of women had a high risk of falls, and 55% reported five or more falls in the past six months. In addition, our results indicated that grip strength decreases as risk of falls increases (minimal risk = 42.8, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 39.8, 45.8; moderate risk = 31.3, 95% CI: 29.1, 33.5; high risk = 21.9, 95% CI: 19.3, 24.6). It should be considered that in physically active women aged over 50 years, the grip strength could be a predictor of falls and risk of falls. Evaluation of grip strength is a low-cost type of assessment that can be included as a part of physical tests.Ciencias Médicas y de la Saludapplication/pdfhttps://doi.org/10.1080/07399332.2022.20557591096466507399332https://repositorio.udes.edu.co/handle/001/7352engReino Unido943Paula Camila VillamizarPita, Adriana Angarita-Fonseca, Hugo Celso Dutra de Souza, Rosmary Martínez-Rueda, María Constanza Villamizar García & Juan Carlos Sánchez-Delgado (2022) Handgrip strength is associated with risk of falls in physically active older women, Health Care for Women International, DOI: 10.1080/07399332.2022.2055759ScopusHandgrip strength is associated with risk of falls in physically active older womenCopyright © 2022 The authors, Informa UK Limitedinfo:eu-repo/semantics/closedAccessAtribución 4.0 Internacional (CC BY 4.0)https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/http://purl.org/coar/access_right/c_14cbhttps://www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.1080/07399332.2022.2055759?scroll=top&needAccess=trueHandgrip strength is associated with risk of falls in physically active older womenArtículo de revistahttp://purl.org/coar/resource_type/c_6501http://purl.org/coar/resource_type/c_2df8fbb1Textinfo:eu-repo/semantics/articlehttp://purl.org/redcol/resource_type/ARTinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersionhttp://purl.org/coar/version/c_970fb48d4fbd8a85Todas las AudienciasPublicationORIGINALHandgrip strength is associated with risk of falls in physically active older women.pdfHandgrip strength is associated with risk of falls in physically active older women.pdfapplication/pdf246691https://repositorio.udes.edu.co/bitstreams/a3a2b423-6c15-4bc4-9f3a-8c3f273f2265/download99cf304c9dcf7268b0ec103532bbb29aMD51LICENSElicense.txtlicense.txttext/plain; charset=utf-859https://repositorio.udes.edu.co/bitstreams/22c59d1d-d5f0-4068-a5c8-67780b842e4c/download38d94cf55aa1bf2dac1a736ac45c881cMD52TEXTHandgrip strength is associated with risk of falls in physically active older women.pdf.txtHandgrip strength is associated with risk of falls in physically active older women.pdf.txtExtracted texttext/plain5https://repositorio.udes.edu.co/bitstreams/39bb846e-f237-48ad-b00e-18a19537c88a/download5dbe86c1111d64f45ba435df98fdc825MD53THUMBNAILHandgrip strength is associated with risk of falls in physically active older women.pdf.jpgHandgrip strength is associated with risk of falls in physically active older women.pdf.jpgGenerated Thumbnailimage/jpeg6971https://repositorio.udes.edu.co/bitstreams/0c3e1c00-1ce0-4078-afd0-750ffd22661e/downloadb17785e6d7618d531b7bd2110f218cf7MD54001/7352oai:repositorio.udes.edu.co:001/73522023-10-10 12:38:36.265https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/Copyright © 2022 The authors, Informa UK Limitedhttps://repositorio.udes.edu.coRepositorio Universidad de Santandersoporte@metabiblioteca.comTGljZW5jaWEgZGUgUHVibGljYWNpw7NuIFVERVMKRGlyZWN0cmljZXMgZGUgVVNPIHkgQUNDRVNPCgo= |
