Description
Summary:Fique, is emerging as a fiber that can provide a solution to the issue of plastic in different industries, especially agriculture, since it has various uses for the production processes of agricultural products such as bananas, flower crops, among others. even, not only the fiber of the stalk can be usable, on the contrary, can be used all, even residues such as bagasse and juice can be used as compost and fertilizer for crops; these can also be used to make products such as soaps, because the plant has surfactant properties. The municipality of San Vicente Ferrer has had a tradition of fiquera, but due to the ups and downs of the crop, this production was decreasing, however, due to the needs of society to generate more sustainable production processes, the production of this plant is again emerging as necessary and with growth potential (Alvarez, C., 2019). The objective of this work is to identify the different types of fique production and the benefits it brings in the municipality of San Vicente de Ferrer, for which, an interview and seven surveys were conducted with farmers in the municipality, from which it was possible to conclude that the fique sector in the municipality of San Vicente Ferrer, has stopped receiving support from local authorities, and the Association's support is limited to social aid, so there is an evident need to promote and encourage the cultivation and commercialization of fique for agricultural producers, beyond those known in handicrafts, so that the benefits of the plant can be exploited for its multiple uses in industries such as agriculture and mass consumption.
