Summary: | This monograph objective is to analyze the importance of measuring the carbon footprint, which is a fundamental factor to create mitigation strategies for the Greenhouse emissions. For this I’ll take into account that the unit to calculate these emissions is expressed in tons of CO2, so we’ll review the history of the concept and the multiple debates that have tried to determine what is the carbon footprint and how did it become a fundamental factor to measure the increase in global warming due to human intervention. Therefore, it’s important to comprehend how’s it measured and the different methods that are used for the quantification according to the person or organization in charge. Finally, we’ll analyze how’s it regulated at an international level through the main organizations, the laws and mechanism used for this purpose, to finally understand how’s Colombia positioned in regulatory and normative issued, consequently, how’s it being applied to companies and industries in the country and their commitment to reduce emissions so they can obtain the neutral carbon certification. |
