Como se menciona, el grupo de investigación es creado a finales del año 2007 por iniciativa del docente Alberto Calderón García, doctor en Educación Física con énfasis en Administración de la Universidad de Tallahassee (Florida), como una forma de consolidar las discusiones y cuestionamientos sobre educación, actividad física y gestión, en el marco del Doctorado Interinstitucional en Educación, adscrito al grupo Investigación por las Aulas de Colombia (Invaucol), con funciones de asesoría a estudiantes de doctorado cuyo tema de indagación se orientaba hacia la actividad física para la salud, el deporte y temas afines.
