description The constitutional recognition of Colombia as a multiethnic and multicultural country raised specific demands to various sectors and areas of the country. The first one refers to the acknowledgment that the monocultural state (one God, one language, one idea of family, production or development) was not enough to describe, explain, understand and name the reality of our country. Thus, a new vocabulary arises to name the territory, the people, the actions, the forms of production, the relationship with the land, the meeting with others. And although there is a large gap between the constitutional provisions and reality, there is also progress and achievements that recognize diversity. In this paper, I focus on education, particularly higher education, based on the results of the research “Interculturality and Inclusion Policies in Colombian Universities: Lessons Learned.” My goal is to account for one way of understanding diversity in the context of university: interculturalization.

La primera de ellas está referida al reconocimiento de que el Estado monocultural (un solo Dios, una sola lengua, una sola idea de familia, de producción o desarrollo) era insuficiente para describir, explicar, comprender y nombrar la realidad de nuestro país. Surge, así, un vocabulario nuevo para nombrar el territorio, la gente, las acciones, las formas de producción, la relación con la tierra, el encuentro con otros. Y aunque la distancia entre la formulación constitucional y la realidad es grande, existe una brecha, hay avances y logros que reconocen la diversidad. Para el caso de este artículo, me centro en el ámbito educativo, especialmente en la educación superior, a partir de los resultados de la investigación “Interculturalidad y políticas de inclusión en la universidad colombiana. Lecciones aprendidas”. Lo que pretendo es dar cuenta de una de las vías para comprender la diversidad en el ámbito universitario: interculturalizarse.O reconhecimento constitucional de que a Colômbia é um país pluriétnico e multicultural suscita exigências específicas a diversos setores e âmbitos da nação. O primeiro deles refere-se ao reconhecimento de que o Estado monocultural (um só Deus, uma só língua, uma só ideia de família, de produção ou desenvolvimento) era insuficiente para descrever, explicar, compreender e nomear a realidade do país. Nasce, assim, um vocabulário novo para nomear o território, as pessoas, as ações, as formas de produção, a relação com a terra, o encontro com os outros. Ainda que a distância entre a formulação constitucional e a realidade seja grande, existe uma brecha, tem avanços e conquistas que reconhecem a diversidade. Neste caso, o artigo centra-se no âmbito educativo, especialmente na educação superior, a partir dos resultados da pesquisa “Interculturalidade e políticas de inclusão na universidade colombiana. Lições aprendidas”.
