El desafío para los ámbitos científico, jurídico, moral y religioso planteado por Donación de Órganos y Trasplantes no es ajeno a Colombia, tema controvertido y complejo desde la óptica de la bioética, por la necesidad de establecer y unificar los criterios de muerte. Reuniones de carácter nacional e internacional han permitido un consenso para la práctica de los trasplantes y el establecimiento de los criterios de muerte encefálica de manera universal.
