Strategic model for nanostores in the last-mile distribution of fresh food
Fresh food distribution has become increasingly complex as emerging regions and megacities develop, due to factors such as product perishability, transportation challenges, storage requirements, and retailers’ geographical distribution. This complexity is particularly challenging in peripheral regio...

Strategic model for nanostores in the last-mile distribution of fresh foodNanotiendasDistribución de alimentos frescosÚltima millaSeguridad alimentariaModelo de optimizaciónFresh food distribution has become increasingly complex as emerging regions and megacities develop, due to factors such as product perishability, transportation challenges, storage requirements, and retailers’ geographical distribution. This complexity is particularly challenging in peripheral regions where food security is already compromised. These regions are usually underserved by large food retailers, leaving room for small local retailers, known as nanostores, to bridge this gap. However, despite their strategic role in those communities, nanostores still face logistical and operational inefficiencies that restrain their ability to supply fresh food affordably and consistently. Nanostores in these areas struggle due to limited access to reliable transportation, storage facilities, and cash flow, which are crucial for commercializing perishable items. This research aims to analyze the current role of nanostores and propose a strategic model to improve the last-mile distribution of fresh food through these channels in such vulnerable regions. The study focuses on a representative location of a typical Latin American municipality, such as the Sabana Centro in Bogotá, Colombia.Doctor en Logística y Gestión de la Cadena de SuministroDoctoradoUniversidad de La SabanaDoctorado en Logística y Gestión de Cadenas de SuministrosFacultad de IngenieríaMejía Delgadillo, Gonzalo EnriqueMejía Argueta, ChristopherDa Silva Ovando, Agatha Clarice2026-03-09T14:52:28Z2026-02-12Tesis/Trabajo de grado - Doctoradohttp://purl.org/coar/resource_type/c_db06http://purl.org/coar/version/c_970fb48d4fbd8a85Textoinfo:eu-repo/semantics/doctoralThesishttp://purl.org/redcol/resource_type/TD129 páginasapplication/pdfapplication/pdfapplication/pdfhttps://hdl.handle.net/10818/68631enghttps://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0/Atribución-NoComercial 4.0 Internacional (CC BY-NC 4.0)http://purl.org/coar/access_right/c_16ecoai:intellectum.unisabana.edu.co:10818/686312026-03-17T09:00:44Z |
