It is relevant to speak about the etymology of both Greek terms, as the changes and widening provoked by linguistic use are the starting point for philosophical reflection. This reflection can be generated in different spheres, being particularly illustrative the ones of tragedy, politics and philosophy in its confrontation with sophistic, if we place ourselves in the fifth century. There, in the political discussion, in the philosophical reflection and in tragic theatre, can the ultimate meaning that the Greeks gave to physis and nomos be appreciated with more realism.Pocas veces se ha indagado el origen y las causas de la oposición entre physis y nómos. La llamada Ilustración griega, que se da en el siglo V a. C., surge como una explicación inicial de la suerte que ha corrido la hermenéutica de dichos conceptos. Es relevante hablar de la etimología de ambos términos griegos, pues los cambios y las ampliaciones provocadas por el uso lingüístico son punto de partida para la reflexión filosófica. Esta puede generarse en distintos ámbitos y son especialmente ilustrativos al respecto el de la tragedia, el de la política y el de la filosofía en su enfrentamiento con la sofística, si nos ubicamos en el siglo V.
