Description
Summary:Article 42 of the Colombian Constitution of 1991 recognized civil effects to all religious marriages. Before that date, the recognition was applied only to catholic marriages. The Agreement n. 1 of 1997, between Colombian State and several Christian noncatholic churches has been the legal instrument to implement the recognition of civil effects to their marriages. The article compares the Colombian system with Italian and Spanish legislation and concludes that the recognition cannot be applied properly to Christian noncatholic churches.
