De las estimaciones preliminares, incluyendo un análisis con efectos fijos por año y equipo, se observa que el cambio del director técnico no produce un efecto en el rendimiento del equipo. Este efecto resulta ser también estadísticamente insignificante cuando se tiene en cuenta el hecho de que el despido de un entrenador no es un evento exógeno, sino que es consecuencia por una "caída" en el rendimiento del equipo. Utilizando como instrumento para el cambio de director técnico el número de partidos que quedan en la temporada (que es un indicador de la duración residual del contrato del director) resulta en que las estimaciones por mínimos cuadrados en dos etapas no muestran ningún efecto significativo del cambio técnico en el rendimiento del equipo.
