En primer lugar, su noción de libre albedrío que no sólo no consiste en el “poder de pecary no-pecar”, sino que además, en términos generales, no presupone posibilidades alternativas. En segundolugar, se mostrará que su noción de libre albedrío descansa en el hecho de que la libertad de la voluntadno puede ser coactada por factores externos a ella misma gracias a su capacidad de dar o retener el asentimiento.Se mostrará que esta comprensión del libre albedrío sobre la que se fundamenta la responsabilidadmoral es compatible con el determinismo. Con ello se ubicará a San Anselmo en un segundo debate comoun filósofo compatibilista.This article looks at St. Anselmo's position on the two classical debates over free will. It begins by demonstrating his notion of free will consists not only of the "power to sin and not to sin," but also, in general terms, it assumes no possible alternatives. Secondly, it explains his notion of free will rests on the fact that it cannot be coerced by factors external to it, given its capacity to give or withhold consent. This understanding of free will on which moral responsibility rests also is shown to be compatible with determinism.
