Se utilizó una metodología de carácter cuantitativo con el objetivo de explorar qué características comparten los espectadores que se autodefinen como fans, así como la existencia de diferencias en función de diversas variables sociodemográficas. Para ello, se elaboró y validó, mediante análisis factorial exploratorio y confirmatorio, el Cuestionario de Identidad Fan. Los resultados confirman cuatro comportamientos asociados al espectador fan que, operando de forma conjunta, pueden explicar y definir la identidad fan en el consumo de contenidos audiovisuales de ficción en España: Experiencia, Conocimiento, Coleccionismo y Visionado. Además, el estudio demuestra que aquellos espectadores que se definen a sí mismos como fans obtienen unos valores más altos en esta escala.
