This methodologywas built on the basis of tourism geography theories without referring to that socioeconomic activity. From the implementation of an exercise conducted between 2017 and 2018, the characteristics of each moment are presented: origin, beginning, development, stagnation, and future.The results show that the methodological tool proposed allows to value the experiences of an informal settlement and understand each of its moments, from the difficulties experiencedby its inhabitants to the opportunities they found to solve some problems and build their own living space.Partiendo de la manera en cómo diferentes autores comprenden el fenómeno de los asentamientos informales, se expone una metodología: “Momentos de lugar de un asentamiento informal”, la cual se construyó inspirándose en teorías de la geografía del turismo, sin necesidad de hacer alusión a esta actividad socio-económica. A partir de un ejercicio de aplicación desarrollado entre 2017 y 2018, se presentan las características de cada momento: Origen, Inicio, Desarrollo, Estancamiento y Futuro. Los resultados muestran que la herramienta metodológica expuesta permite poner en valor la trayectoria de un asentamiento informal, posibilitando la comprensión de cada uno de sus momentos, desde las dificultades experimentadas por sus habitantes hasta las oportunidades encontradas por ellos mismos para solucionar algunos problemas, construyendo así su propio espacio de vida.Partindo do modo como diferentes autores entendem o fenômeno dos assentamentos informais, expõe-se uma metodologia: "Momentos de lugar de um assentamento informal", que foi construída inspirada em teorias da geografia do turismo, sem a necessidade de fazer referência a esta atividade socioeconômica. A partir de um exercício de aplicação desenvolvido entre 2017 e 2018, são apresentadas as características de cada momento: Pré-lugar, Início, Desenvolvimento, Estagnação e Futuro.
