This paper focuses on the institutional transformation of Chilean higher education carried out by the civic-military dictatorship between 1973 and 1990. The main contribution of this research lies in the search of the, so generically, called neoliberalism in higher education. From this emerges the historical interpretation according to which the transformation of Chilean higher education, during the civil-military dictatorship, was not marked by a trajectory of cumulative neoliberal change, but rather consisted of a field of dispute, together with a disruption with respect to what is understood as Neoliberalism in education. Therefore, the research is framed in studies on history of education. A historical and methodological strategy of hermeneutical approach guides the study and the use of information will be focused on the validation and testing of sources. |

El principal aporte de la investigación se instala en la búsqueda, desde una transformación histórica concreta, de lo que se ha llamado genéricamente el neoliberalismo en educación superior. De esto emerge la interpretación histórica de que la transformación de la educación superior chilena, durante la dictadura cívico-militar, no estuvo marcada por una trayectoria de cambio neoliberal acumulativa, sino más bien como un campo de disputa. Por lo tanto, la investigación se enmarca en los estudios sobre historia de la educación guiada por una estrategia metodológica histórica de enfoque hermenéutico, cuyo uso de información estará centrado en la validación y contrastación de fuentes.O presente artigo concentra-se na transformação institucional da educação superior chilena realizada pela ditadura civil-militar durante os anos 1973-1990. A principal contribuição desta pesquisa consiste na busca de compreensão, a partir de uma transformação histórica concreta, do que é chamado genericamente de neoliberalismo na educação superior. Daí emerge a interpretação histórica de que a transformação da educação superior chilena, durante a ditadura cívico-militar, não esteve marcada por uma trajetória de mudança neoliberal acumulativa, senão mais precisamente como um campo de disputa, com um deslocamento, a respeito do que se entende por Neoliberalismo em educação.
