This article investigates the role of history in memory. It attempts to resolve the questions: who remembers a past full of atrocities and pain, how can this be done, and for what reasons? This analysis is centered on two main categories: memory and history, including both their differences and their similarities. It scrutinizes the relationships between historiography, historical memory and contemporary politicalviolence speciically within the Colombian context, as well as the necessity and moral duty of society to engage in the exercise of memory with the maximum rigor and precision. In addition, this article will argue in favor of present-day history and subaltern studies. These historiographical trends are not only useful in articulating memory and history, but also in addressing and projecting the outlook of the victims in the asymmetrical and complex power relations that characterize Colombia. |

Pretende dar respuesta a la pregunta ¿quiénes recuerdan, cómo y para qué, un pasado lleno de atrocidades y dolor?, por lo que centrará el análisis en las categorías de memoria e historia, desde sus diferencias y complementariedades. De forma más puntual, estudiará la relación entre historiografía, memoria histórica y violencia política contemporánea —con énfasis en el contexto colombiano— y la necesidad y el deber moral que tiene nuestra sociedad de emprender ejercicios de memoria con el máximo rigor posible. Por último, se argumentará a favor de la historia del tiempo presente y los estudios subalternos, corrientes historiográficas útiles no sólo para articular memoria e historia sino para abordar y proyectar el punto de vista de las víctimas en el asimétrico y complejo escenario de las relaciones de poder que caracteriza al país.Le présent travail étudie le rôle de l’Histoire au temps de la mémoire. Il prétend répondre à la question: qui se souvient, comment et pourquoi, d’un passé plein d’atrocités et de douleur ? Voilà pourquoi on focalisera l’analyse sur les catégories de mémoire et d’histoire, à partir de ses différences et de complémentarités. De manière plus ponctuelle, on étudiera la relation entre historiographie, mémoire historiqueet violence politique contemporaine —particulièrement le cas colombien— et la nécessité et le devoir moral qu’a notre ociété d’entamer des exercices de mémoire avec le plus de rigueur possible.
