Description
Summary:The text addresses socio-economic aspects related to the city of Lima during the Early Republic (1821-1860). Through the sociodemographic study of the first district of the 1831 municipal census of Lima, a socio-spatial characterization was carried out during the third decade of the 19th century, a period of strong socio-economic instability, providing an insight into change through the diachronic analysis of the third neighbourhood between 1824 and 1831, that is, from a single basic administrative unit of the Lima statistical record. The results of both demonstrate that the new network of subordinates of the local administration of the Early Republic maintained the tradition of population counting during the late viceregal period with relative efficiency, in addition to generating records that corroborate the demographic and spatial trends observed in more comprehensive censuses during the same period.
