description Measuring an ecological footprint is important since it determines the productive area necessary to regenerate the natural resources consumed by human beings. The calculation of this value is facilitated in large part by the classification of solid waste in order to identify the impact generated on the environment according to the category of each waste. When considering technological advances in the area of ​​electronic engineering, the research question arises: How can the ecological footprint be measured by classifying solid waste when using a data processing system? To answer this question, three methodological phases are proposed: design of the electronic and software system, functional tests, and demonstration of the operation of the device. Thus, a device for classifying solid waste and measuring ecological footprints was obtained which uses databases, embedded systems, and graphical interfaces that are easy to understand for end users.

El cálculo de este valor se facilita gracias a la clasificación de residuos sólidos, para identificar el impacto generado en el medioambiente según la categoría de cada residuo. Al considerar los avances tecnológicos en el área de la ingeniería electrónica, se plantea la pregunta de investigación: ¿Cómo medir la huella ecológica mediante la clasificación de residuos sólidos al usar un sistema de procesamiento de datos? Para esto, se plantean tres fases metodológicas: diseño del sistema electrónico y de software, pruebas de funcionamiento y, finalmente, demostración de la operación del dispositivo. Así, se obtuvo un dispositivo clasificador de residuos sólidos y medidor de huella ecológica, el cual utiliza bases de datos, sistemas embebidos e interfaces gráficas de fácil comprensión para los usuarios finales.A medição da pegada ecológica é importante já que permite conhecer a área produtiva necessária para regenerar os recursos naturais consumidos pelo ser humano. O cálculo deste valor facilita-se graças à classificação de resíduos sólidos, para identificar o impacto gerado no meio ambiente segundo a categoria de cada resíduo. Ao considerar os avanços tecnológicos na área da engenharia eletrônica, planteia-se a pergunta de pesquisa: Como medir a pegada ecológica mediante a classificação de resíduos sólidos ao usar um sistema de processamento de dados? Para isto, planteiam-se três fases metodológicas: desenho do sistema eletrônico e de software, provas de funcionamento e, finalmente, demonstração da operação do dispositivo.
