In the twenties and thirties of the twentieth century, a small sector of the elite class with nationalist and hygienist tendencies, had the intention of using this popular game as a civilizing instrument for working class sectors and transforming it into the national sport of Colombian people. Their purpose was to make sports accessible to all, to generate discipline, and control men and women’s free time.Besides, they had the intention of becoming an identity model for the construction of a national identity.El presente trabajo reivindica una práctica autóctona colombiana, como es el Juego de Tejo o Turmequé. Al visibilizar las intenciones de un pequeño sector de la élite, con rasgos nacionalistas e higienistas, quienes pretendieron en los intersticios de la década del veinte y treinta del siglo XX, utilizar este juego popular como un instrumento civilizatorio de los sectores populares, al convertirlo en el deporte nacional de los colombianos. Sus intenciones fueron masificar los deportes, generar disciplina y controlar el ocio de hombres y mujeres, además de pretender ser un referente identitario que permitiera la construcción de una identidad nacional.Cet article revendique une pratique autochtone en Colombie: le jeu de tejo ou turmequé. En même temps, il montre les desseins d’une petite partie de l’élite, imbued’idées nationalistes et hygiénistes, qui a voulu dans les années1920-1930, utiliser ce jeu populaire comme un moyen civilisateur des secteurs populaires, après l’avoirconverti en sport national des Colombiens. Ses objectifs ont été la massiication du sport, la création d’une discipline, outre le contrôle de l’oisiveté des hommes et des femmes.
