In this context, critical readings that interpet Aballay from a moralist or religious rereading of gauchesca literature are confronted. On the contrary, a hypothesis is proposed about the mysticism of the protagonist, interpreting his adventures as a sacred experience.Este trabajo propone una lectura de “Aballay” (1978) de Antonio Di Benedetto. Para ello, parte del problema de la tradición gauchesca que el cuento interroga. En este contexto, discute con las lecturas críticas que leen en “Aballay” una relectura moralista o religiosa de la gauchesca.
