description	This study considers the prominent regionalizations in Mexico on the academic level and the national territorial planning. They were examined for the state of Oaxaca, along with other regionalizations of this federal entity. The objective was to highlight the importance and usefulness of regionalizations for the territorial planning of development from the concepts of homogeneous and functional regions. The applied methodology is centered on collecting bibliographic and documentary information, accompanied by the digital processing of cartographic information through geographic information systems software. The results showed that these provide information on the environment, economic activities, biodiversity conservation priorities, and urban and rural dynamics at the national level. Regarding Oaxaca, the economic regions of Bassols, the ecological regionalization of the Secretariat of Environment and Natural Resources (SERMANAT), the functional regionalization of the Secretariat for Agrarian, Land and Urban Development (SEDATU), the regionalization of the National Commission for the Knowledge and Use of Biodiversity (CONABIO), and the eight ethnic-folkloric regions of the state of Oaxaca were analyzed. It was found that the analyzed regionalizations are complementary and fundamental for economic development planning with a territorial focus.

Estas fueron examinadas para el estado de Oaxaca, junto con otras regionalizaciones de esta entidad federativa. El objetivo fue destacar la importancia y utilidad de las regionalizaciones para la planificación territorial del desarrollo desde los conceptos de región homogénea y funcional. La metodología aplicada tiene su eje central en la recopilación de información bibliográfica y documental, acompañada del procesamiento digital de información cartográfica mediante software de sistemas de información geográfica. Los resultados arrojaron que estas aportan información sobre medio ambiente, actividades económicas, prioridades de conservación de la biodiversidad y sobre la dinámica urbana y rural a nivel nacional. En cuanto a Oaxaca, se analizaron: las regiones económicas de Bassols, la regionalización ecológica de la Secretaría del Medio Ambiente y los Recursos Naturales (Semarnat), la regionalización funcional de la Secretaría de Desarrollo Agrario Territorial y Urbano (Sedatu), la regionalización de la Comisión Nacional para el Conocimiento y Uso de la Biodiversidad (Conabio) y las ocho regiones étnico-folklóricas del estado de Oaxaca. Se encontró que las regionalizaciones analizadas son complementarias y fundamentales para la planificación del desarrollo económico con enfoque territorial.Este estudo considera as substanciais regionalizações no México, tanto para o nível acadêmico quanto para o planejamento territorial nacional. Estas foram examinadas para o estado de Oaxaca, juntamente com outras regionalizações desta entidade federal. O objetivo foi destacar a importância e a utilidade das regionalizações para o planejamento do desenvolvimento territorial, a partir dos conceitos de região homogênea e funcional. A metodologia aplicada tem como eixo central a recolha de informação bibliográfica e documental, acompanhada do tratamento digital da informação cartográfica através de software de sistema de informação geográfica. Os resultados mostraram que eles fornecem informações sobre meio ambiente, atividades econômicas, prioridades de conservação da biodiversidade e dinâmicas urbanas e rurais em nível nacional. Em relação a Oaxaca, foram analisados: regiões econômicas de Bassols, regionalização ecológica do Ministério do Meio Ambiente e Recursos Naturais (SEMARNAT), regionalização funcional do Ministério de Desenvolvimento Territorial e Urbano Agrário (SEDATU), regionalização da Comissão Nacional para o Conhecimento e Uso da Biodiversidade (CONABIO) e as oito regiões etnográficas folclóricas do estado de Oaxaca.
