The university, as an institution of higher education, as is the case of the Universidad de San Carlos de Guatemala (USAC), has a specific mission, which focuses on three central axes: teaching, research, and university extension. These pillars support and guide its openness to new opportunities, to respond to national, regional, and global problems. Originality/contribution: The university must be alert and attentive to this call with a prospective view, without losing sight of the retrospective learnings that can be of help to face future scenarios, especially for youth people, who full of hope, are eager to enter inhospitable paths and at the same time are devoured by the new information and communication technologies. The purpose of this article is to analyze the role of the university in the 21st century, regarding the changes in higher education and the possible new archetype of a university education that demands the insertion of changes. Method: review of a philosophical framework, which covers the mission and vision, as well as the axiological component; an academic framework. Likewise, it consists of an academic reflection that intends to call the attention of the different actors of the academic community, with the intention of establishing spaces for academic dialogues. Strategies/information collection: They consisted of the use of techniques, such as: Textual or content analysis, which made it possible to investigate the different documentary points of view in order to arrive at a reflection. Website analysis, to gather relevant information, given the production of material related to the study. Documentary review, which made it possible to evaluate the documents to verify their validity and reliability of their content. Open sources and database, which allow to have an approach with the information that interests to analyze to complement the study. Conclusions: it is necessary to review both the design of programs and their development, as well as digital literacy and the transdisciplinary approach. It is essential to have a legal framework that revises the concept of university autonomy, the university's own functions, and university policies, which should be based on transversal axes that are present in all academic programs. In this way, the university is not left in a total obsolescence, since the graduates are those who are inserted into the labor market, both in the private and public sectors. |

El propósito de este artículo radica en analizar acerca del papel que tiene la universidad en el siglo XXI, de acuerdo con los cambios en los cuales se inserta la educación superior y cuál sería el nuevo arquetipo de una educación universitaria que demanda la inserción de cambios. Método: revisión de un marco filosófico, que reviste la misión y visión, como el componente axiológico; un marco académico. De la misma manera, apuesta a una reflexión académica, dirigir preocupación con los diferentes actores de la comunidad académica, con la intención de que se establezcan espacios de diálogos académicos. Estrategias/recolección de información: Consistieron en la utilización de las técnicas, tales como: Análisis textual o de contenido, que permitió investigar los distintos puntos de vista documentales para llegar a una reflexión. Análisis de sitios web, para recopilar información relevante, dada la producción de material vinculado con el estudio. Revisión documental, que permite evaluar los documentos para verificar su validez y confiabilidad de su contenido. Fuentes abiertas y base de datos, que permiten tener un acercamiento con la información que interesa analizar para complementar el estudio. Conclusiones: Es necesario revisar tanto el diseño de programas como su desarrollo, así como la alfabetización digital y la mirada transdisciplinaria. Es fundamental contar con un marco legal, que revise el concepto de la autonomía universitaria, las funciones propias de la universidad, y las políticas universitarias, que deben cimentarse en ejes transversales que estén presentes en todos los programas académicos. A universidade e o futuro do ensino superior Resumo Objetivo: A educação, a nível universitário, enfrenta muitos desafios, especialmente com a invasão achatadora da globalização e mundialização que requer e exige transformações transcendentais e significativas no seu trabalho diário. A universidade, enquanto instituição de ensino superior, como é o caso da Universidade de San Carlos de Guatemala (USAC), tem uma missão específica, que se centra em três pilares centrais: o ensino, a investigação e a extensão universitária. Estes pilares constituem a base para a abertura a novas oportunidades que lhe permitem dar resposta a problemas não só nacionais, mas também regionais e mundiais. Originalidade/contribuição: A universidade deve estar alerta e atenta a esse chamado com um olhar prospetivo, sem perder de vista o olhar retrospetivo, que deixa grandes lições aprendidas para dar lugar a um cenário futuro, cheio de esperança para uma juventude ávida por adentrar caminhos inóspitos, mas que, ao mesmo tempo, a devoram com as novas tecnologias de informação e comunicação. O objetivo deste artigo é analisar o papel da universidade no século XXI, de acordo com as mudanças em que o ensino superior está inserido e qual seria o novo arquétipo de uma formação universitária que exige a inserção de mudanças. Metodo : Revisão de um quadro filosófico, que abrange a missão e a visão, bem como a componente axiológica; um quadro académico. Da mesma forma, compromete-se com a reflexão académica, dirigindo a preocupação para os diferentes actores da comunidade académica, com a intenção de estabelecer espaços de diálogo académico. Estratégias/coleta de dados: Consistiram na utilização de técnicas como: Análise textual ou de conteúdo, que permitiu investigar os diferentes pontos de vista documentais para chegar a uma reflexão. Análise de sítios Web, para recolher informação relevante, dada a produção de material ligado ao estudo. Revisão documental, que permitiu avaliar os documentos para verificar a validade e a fiabilidade do seu conteúdo. Fontes abertas e base de dados, que permitem ter uma aproximação com a informação que interessa analisar para complementar o estudo. Conclusões: É necessário rever tanto a conceção dos programas e o seu desenvolvimento, como a literacia digital e a visão transdisciplinar. É essencial dispor de um quadro jurídico que reveja o conceito de autonomia universitária, as funções próprias da universidade e as políticas universitárias, que devem basear-se em eixos transversais presentes em todos os programas académicos.
