To the discipline dispute of sociological field will precede the dispute about what constitutes a science and what is the accompanying worldview. This article traces a journey through the process of creating, building and transfiguration of the social sciences in the modernity and contemporaneity, based on the underlying controversy in its epistemic precepts.La conformación de las ciencias sociales ha estado cruzada no solo por la discusión acerca de su estatuto científico y sus criterios metodológicos de demarcación, sino por la concepción de la ciencia y del mundo que la subyacen. A la disputa disciplinar del campo sociológico le precederá la disputa acerca de qué debe entenderse como ciencia y cuál es la concepción del mundo que la acompaña.
