description This article analyzes women from the Spanish Republican exile of 1939 to France through a case study, examining migrations and exiles from a gender perspective. Migration and refugee movements pose contemporary challenges that need to be understood historically. We observe that labour integration into host societies is one of its most critical aspects, and it also has its own gender dimension. Therefore, we will explore how migration studies in history have examined the relationship between gender and labour, proving to be valuable in revealing the agency of migrant women. Finally, we will critically review the historiography concerning women in the Republican exile of 1939 and the gaps that persist regarding the labour dimension of their experiences, offering some interpretations and suggesting future lines of research.

Los movimientos migratorios y de refugiados representan desafíos contemporáneos que requieren ser pensados históricamente, observamos que la inserción laboral en las sociedades de acogida es uno de sus puntos más críticos, la cual tiene también una propia dimensión de género. Por ello, veremos cómo los estudios migratorios, desde la historia han estudiado la relación entre género y trabajo, siendo de gran utilidad para revelar la agencia de las mujeres migrantes. Finalmente, revisaremos críticamente la historiografía sobre las mujeres exilio republicano de 1939 y las lagunas que persisten sobre la dimensión laboral de sus experiencias, arrojando algunas interpretaciones y sugiriendo futuras líneas de investigación.Cet article analyse les femmes de l’exil républicain espagnol de 1939 en France, à travers une étude de cas dans laquelle les migrations et les exilés sont étudiés dans une perspective de genre. Les mouvements migratoires et de réfugiés représentent des défis contemporains qui nécessitent une réflexion historique; nous observons que l’insertion professionnelle dans les sociétés d’accueil est l’un de leurs points les plus critiques, qui a également sa propre dimension de genre. Nous verrons donc comment les études sur la migration, depuis l’histoire, ont étudié la relation entre genre et travail, étant très utiles pour révéler l’action des femmes migrantes.
