Self-denial, the literary and recognition needs of a socially influential father, her marriage to a well-known doctor from Tenerife, the admiration of an audience of women who were torn between seclusion and the fervour of a castrating Catholicism, are some of the traits that helped to conceal her. The writer of poetry, children's stories and novels traced a literary, intellectual and emotional path that was soon cut short, despite her recognition. In this contribution we will analyse part of the unknown life of the author in the Islands.Gertrudis Segovia Álvarez es una escritora olvidada a pesar de haber disfrutado de éxito hasta bien avanzado el siglo XX. La literata encuentra dificultades con una identidad femenina para la que ni encuentra, ni se le da un estatuto intelectual o emocional propio. La abnegación, la necesidad literaria y de reconocimiento de un padre socialmente influyente, el matrimonio con un reconocido médico tinerfeño, la admiración de un público de mujeres que se debatían entre el recogimiento y el fervor de un catolicismo castrante, son algunos de los rasgos que ayudaron a su ocultación. La escritora de poesías, cuentos infantiles y novela traza un camino literario, intelectual y emocional que pronto se ve cercenado, a pesar de su reconocimiento. En esta aportación reflexionamos la desconocida vida de la autora en las Islas.  Gertrudis Segovia Álvarez é uma escritora esquecida apesar de ter tido sucesso bem no século 20. Ela encontrou dificuldades com uma identidade feminina para a qual ela não encontrou nem lhe foi dado um status intelectual ou emocional próprio. A auto-negação, as necessidades literárias e de reconhecimento de um pai socialmente influente, o casamento com um conhecido médico de Tenerife, a admiração de um público de mulheres que estavam divididas entre a reclusão e o fervor de um catolicismo castrador, são alguns dos traços que ajudaram a ocultá-la. A escritora de poesia, histórias infantis e romances traça um caminho literário, intelectual e emocional que logo é encurtado, apesar de seu reconhecimento.
