El rol del padre en las familias con madres que trabajan fuera del hogar; the role of the father in families where the mother works outside of home

Este trabajo es el resultado de una investigación que busca describir el rol del padre en familias con madres trabajadoras y con niños en edad preescolar. Se entiende «rol del padre» como la serie de conductas y cualidades expresadas y esperadas que definen la posición del padre. Para llevar a cabo este estudio se utilizó como estrategia metodológica el diseño descriptivo– comparativo. La recolección de la información se realizó mediante la técnica de entrevista semiestructurada. La muestra de estudio estuvo conformada por 100 familias pertenecientes al estrato socioeconómico medio del distrito de Barranquilla, en las que ambos padres trabajan fuera del hogar y cuyos hijos se hallan en edad preescolar. Los resultados muestran cómo frente a los grandes cambios que afronta la familia frente a las crisis sociales, en su interior el papel del padre no ofrece grandes cambios, y mantiene aún las características propias de las sociedades tradicionales.Palabras claves: Rol, padre, familia, mujer trabajadora, niño preescolarThese are the final findings of an investigation aiming to describe the role of the father within families with working mothers and children in preschool years. “the role of the father” is understood as the series of behaviors and qualities expressed and expected and which defines the father’s position. To undertake this study it was used as a methodological strategy the comparative descriptive design. The data collection was done by means of semi structured interviews. The study sample was conformed by 100 families belonging to the average socioeconomic level of the district of Barranquilla and in which both parents work out of the family dwelling and whose children belong to the preschool population. Results show that although families are experiencing crucial changes due to the social crisis, at the interior of the family the father’s role hasn’t suffered any changes and it still sustains all the characteristics of traditional societies.
