Summary:This project allows to do the mechanical design a medium voltage overhead distribution line through an user graphic interface. Offering some particular characteristics such as: the visualization of the longitudinal profile and plan view of the selected route, supports location, sags calculation, safety distances, among others. The development of this tool was done with the help of MATLAB. Initially the parameters required by the software are loaded and a preliminary layout with supports location is displayed. Subsequently, using the equations for catenary calculation, the maximun sags are calculated and the mechanical tensions are check according to constraints that the designer supply. Finally, a check is done to see if the maximun value​ ​supported by the support and the security levels are not violated. On the other hand, for the validation process of this software, it was decided to carry out a case study with the purpose of establishing specific conclusions taking into account the different topologies of terrains that may be presented.
