La pregunta de Quine, "¿Qué es lo que hay?" recibe una característica peculiar en la física actual, especialmente cuando otorgamos atención al concepto de "entidad física", u objeto físico, sobre lo que dicen algo, al menos idealmente, las teorías físicas. En la medida en que la física se ocupa de los constitutivos últimos de la materia, entra en escena la cuestión de los objetos físicos de modo esencial. A pesar de que la física actual no se ocupa propiamente de ontología, sino de explicar por qué el mundo es como es, las cuestiones ontológicas interesan al filósofo, y si éste no quiere limitarse a la mera especulación, se debe acercar a lo que pasa en la ciencia actual y no puede ignorar la teorías vigentes, en especial, las físicas. |

A pesar de que la física actual no se ocupa propiamente de ontología, sino de explicar por qué el mundo es como es, las cuestiones ontológicas interesan al filósofo, y si éste no quiere limitarse a la mera especulación, se debe acercar a lo que pasa en la ciencia actual y no puede ignorar la teorías vigentes, en especial, las físicas.Quine's question: "what is there?" has a peculiar characteristic in current physics, specially when we give attention to the concept of "physical entity" or "physical object", about what physical theories say something, at least ideally. In so far as physics deals with the ultimate constituents of matter, the problem of physical objects get in the picture.
