Más allá de la frecuencia de consumo, el realismo percibido, grado en que se considera que la pornografía refleja la sexualidad real, podría modular sus efectos sobre la función y el bienestar sexual. Este estudio busca analizar a correlación entre el realismo percibido de la pornografía, la función sexual y las dimensiones de la Sexuality Scale (autoestima sexual, depresión sexual y preocupación sexual) en estudiantes de 18 a 25 años de la Universidad de Caldas durante el año 2024. Se desarrolló un estudio cuantitativo, correlacional y transversal, con 896 participantes seleccionados por conveniencia. Se aplicaron cuestionarios autoadministrados que incluyeron variables sociodemográficas, la escala de Realismo Percibido de la Pornografía (α = 0,83), la Sexuality Scale validada en Colombia (α = 0,88–0,89) y el MGH-SFQ para función sexual (α = 0,87). Los datos fueron procesados en SPSS v25, utilizando análisis descriptivo y correlaciones de Spearman con corrección de Bonferroni (α = 0,0125). Los resultados mostraron que la percepción de realismo fue predominantemente baja (M = 2,14 ± 0,81), mientras que la función sexual global fue alta (M = 3,88 ± 0,89). La autoestima sexual presentó valores elevados (M = 3,75 ± 0,87), y tanto la depresión sexual (M = 2,05 ± 0,95) como la preocupación sexual (M = 1,82 ± 0,92) fueron bajas. El realismo percibido no mostró correlación significativa con la función sexual (ρ = 0,002 en hombres; ρ = 0,031 en mujeres) ni con la autoestima (ρ = 0,056) o depresión sexual (ρ = 0,062); sin embargo, se observó una asociación positiva y significativa con la preocupación sexual (hombres: ρ = 0,277; mujeres: ρ = 0,202; p < 0,001), de magnitud baja a moderada. En conclusión, la mayoría de los jóvenes reconoció el carácter ficcional de la pornografía, lo que podría actuar como un mecanismo cognitivo protector frente a sus posibles efectos negativos. Los hallazgos sugieren que el impacto del consumo no depende del acceso, sino de la interpretación del contenido, y que el realismo percibido incide principalmente sobre la esfera cognitiva (pensamientos sexuales) más que sobre la función o el bienestar sexual. Se recomienda profundizar en estudios longitudinales y avanzar en la validación transcultural de la escala de realismo percibido en población colombiana.Pornography consumption is a widespread practice among university students and raises questions about its influence on sexual experience. This study aims to analyze the correlation between perceived realism of pornography, sexual functioning, and the dimensions of the Sexuality Scale (sexual self-esteem, sexual depression, and sexual preoccupation) in students aged 18 to 25 years at the University of Caldas during 2024. A quantitative, correlational, cross-sectional study was conducted with 896 participants selected by convenience sampling. Self-administered questionnaires were applied, including sociodemographic variables, the Perceived Realism of Pornography Scale (α = 0.83), the Sexuality Scale validated in Colombia (α = 0.88–0.89), and the MGH-SFQ for sexual functioning (α = 0.87). Data were processed in SPSS v25 using descriptive analyses and Spearman correlations with Bonferroni correction (α = 0.0125). Results showed that perceived realism was predominantly low (M = 2.14 ± 0.81), whereas overall sexual functioning was high (M = 3.88 ± 0.89). Sexual self-esteem presented high values (M = 3.75 ± 0.87), while both sexual depression (M = 2.05 ± 0.95) and sexual preoccupation (M = 1.82 ± 0.92) were low. The findings suggest that the impact of pornography consumption depends not on access itself but on the interpretation of the content, and that perceived realism primarily influences the cognitive domain (sexual thoughts) rather than sexual functioning or sexual well-being.
