The genus Anaplasma is widely distributed throughout the world and currently comprises eight (8) species of bacteria, which may be of importance in human and animal health. In tropical countries such as Colombia, its study has focused mainly on the livestock and domestic animal sector, with few studies in humans and wild animals. Thus, knowledge on the circulation, associations and prevalence of Anaplasma in Colombia is scarce and fragmented. In the present research, a systematic review and meta-analysis was carried out to compile information from scientific literature, in order to identify the associations of Anaplasma with vertebrate hosts and ticks. Additionally, Anaplasma DNA was detected by PCR, and its prevalence and associations with wild mammals were analyzed in seven (7) municipalities and 11 localities in the Magdalena and Cauca River basins, Colombia. The results of the systematic review yielded a total of 30 articles with information on associations of Anaplasma with ticks, wild, domestic and human animals. These studies have been carried out in the Colombian territory, specifically in the Andean, Caribbean, Orinoco and Pacific regions of Colombia. The review provided information on three Anaplasma species reported in the Colombian territory: Anaplasma marginale, Anaplasma phagocytophilum and Anaplasma platys, associated with cattle, humans and dogs, respectively. These associations have also been observed with ticks of the genera Amblyomma, Dermacentor and Rhipicephalus. On the other hand, analyses carried out in the Magdalena and Cauca River basins revealed 13 new associations between wild mammal species and the Anaplasmataceae family. Among these are 11 new associations with bats (Chiroptera), one (1) new association with Heteromys australis (Rodentia) and the association with the marsupial Metachirus myosuros (Didelphimorphia) was documented for the first time.
