Summary: | VERDEGREEN is a company that produces and commercializes disposable biodegradable (glasses) from the residual biomass of sugar cane, is located in the Municipality of Florida, Valle del Cauca, being this, a strong area in the sector of sugarcane agroindustry. VERDEGREEN, is a solution developed by two students of Environmental Engineering: Juan Camilo Largo, leader and developer of sustainable projects in the indigenous communities of the south of the country, an unquestionable entrepreneur in turning environmental problems into business ideas and Santiago Lopez, a leader to solve the different environmental problems that are presented today, entrepreneur with imagination and initiative to develop new ideas. Therefore, based on the knowledge acquired in the course of biomass exploitation at the Autonomous University of the West, the idea of negotiating to transform the residues of sugarcane (leaves and buds) into biodegradable disposables, seeking to supply the need of market and provide a solution to environmental problems. Initially, a cañicultor was sought to facilitate the raw material (leaves and buds), where a strategic alliance was made with Mr. Christian Andres Garcia that consists in that VERDEGREEN will be in charge of the collection and transport of all the residues of the residual biomass generated in the hectares of sugar cane cultivation of this same. With the obtaining of the raw material we proceed to the transformation stage, which goes through several processes such as: 1. Organosolvent method, which consists of using mixtures of organic solvents such as methanol, ethanol, acetone, among others, with 1% (v / v) of inorganic acid as a catalyst, which is used to break the internal bonds of lignin and hemicellulose, that is, delignifies the biomass of leaves and buds by transforming them into a solid material (biomass pulp). It is important to mention that in order to perform the organosolvent method, there were previous steps to reach it, such as washing and drying the leaves and buds, crushing, sieving and cooking, 2. Thermoforming the pulp, counting on the biomass pulp obtained with the above method, it is proceeded to put this in the mold of the pressure and heat machine, which will give the final shape to the product desired by the company VERDEGREEN, all this proc that was developed thanks to the collaboration and disposition of the laboratories of the Autonomous University of the West of the city of Cali. Indeed, the implementation of the aforementioned transformation process resulted in a consistent, resistant, aesthetic, striking and pleasant product for consumers |
