Summary:The proper management of solid waste in the penitentiary is fundamental to establish the right of prisoners to a healthy environment. The Villahermosa penitentiary presents an incorrect waste management and disposal; it has a management plan in which the types of existing solid wastes are not clearly identified. Due to the above, the implementation of a solid waste management plan (PGIRS) is required, involving the prison community and the design of information dissemination tools to contribute to environmental education and continuous improvement. management and use. An initial characterization was carried out by means of photographic records and quantification of waste with the quartering method, in order to know in what conditions the penitentiary prison was in terms of compliance with regulations and to identify the problems related to production and disposal of waste, A parallel was made between what the regulation for PGIRS of residential sets dictates in relation to the characteristics of the institution, where some items were modified to obtain better results when disposing of solid waste. The appropriate processes of separation and storage at the source, collection and transport, treatments and final disposal of generated waste were established.
