Summary:In the present document, three options of materials will be analyzed to make the change of the lid and the upper ring of a forage silo under the API 650 technical standard. Different chemical tests were carried out to know the composition of the forage and determine the presence of compounds that potentially affect the corrosion process, the latter being the cause of the replacement. The experimental results indicated that the corrosion is exclusively due to the water contained in the forage. Taking into account the above, three steel options were proposed: carbon steel AISI 1045, stainless steel 316L and 3Cr12. The material whose chemical composition did not affect the structure immediately inferior to the replacement ring, which is made of carbon steel AISI1040, avoiding the generation of a galvanic couple, was selected. The suggested steel is AISI1045 steel, which meets the service life, required by the company that is 20 years. The thickness was calculated and it was verified that these will support the load conditions and the stress state to which the silo is subjected, by means of the finite element method with the ANSYS software. The appropriate welding process was proposed for the union of the upper ring with the body of the silo and the maneuver of disassembly and assembly of the new structure in the field was designed
