Description
Summary:In Colombia as in the world, manufacturers of mechanical parts, are forced to provide quality in all their products, if they want to stay in the market, which is very competitive. It is clear that the market demands not only quality but also low prices. MVM Ltda. company, is now in a process of developing self-lubricated bushings for fans within its line of bushings for home appliances. The bushings are made of copper alloy obtained by powder metallurgy process. The company achieved the introduction the market of two references, CT500 and CT1000 which were very popular, but the import of foreign origin bushings, is increasing, and turned out to be cheaper compared to national origin bushings. As MVM Ltda. requires minimizing costs to increase competitiveness, they decided to make the powder mixture process in their plant and not by an external agent as is normally done, which arise MVM500 and MVM1000 references. On the other hand, they decided to throw in its production line a much cheaper new reference it using different filler material. But to launch the new references is necessary to validate its quality, for which is necessary to evaluate the mechanical and tribological properties of different references, being this, the reason of this research. Three bushings references were made for studying its properties (MVM300, MVM500 and MVM1000), the others references were already within the production line MVM Ltda. The Vickers hardness of the different bushings references was determined with a durometer; also were determinate the material loss and the dynamic friction coefficient by the pin on disk test. The microstructure analyses of the materials were done by electron microscopy SEM. Finally, the thermal stability of the materials was evaluated by Thermogravimetric. According to the results, it was determined that is possible introduce to the market the MVM500 references and MVM1000 because they haven´t significant differences with CT500 and CT1000 references. Finally, comparing the mechanical and tribological MVM300 properties with the others references, it was determined that is not possible introduced the MVM300 reference to the market, because its properties are well below the required range
