Our findings indicate that leadership practices in the investigated OMSs are autonomous, reflective and rule-based. Emphasizing collective reflection and rules highlights two aspects of leadership in OMSs that have been largely ignored in the discourses. Nevertheless, they turn out to be important means to address the challenges of autonomous leadership.El presente artículo analiza cómo se practica el liderazgo en las organizaciones de movimientos sociales (OMS). A partir de los Estudios Críticos de Liderazgo, y tomando como base una investigación empírica cualitativa realizada en las organizaciones del movimiento de protesta español 15M, se analizan las percepciones del liderazgo, las tensiones y las prácticas para hacer frente a estos desafíos. Nuestros hallazgos indican que las prácticas de liderazgo en las OMS investigadas son autónomas, reflexivas y basadas en reglas. Al poner el énfasis en la reflexión colectiva y las reglas, se destacan dos aspectos del liderazgo en las OMS que han sido ampliamente ignorados en los discursos.
