These trends are classified as: 1) Individual aspects (traits, personal values, leadership style); 2) group aspects (leader-follower exchange, effects on followers); 3) organizational aspects (organizational culture, internal stakeholders) and 4) contextual aspects (national cultures, external stakeholders). It concludes that the research on ethical leadership has been focused on the leader-followers’ interactions and the effects of such interaction. In minor measure, it has been studied the individual and organizational analysis level. The contextual level has been the least researched.Este artículo identifica tendencias de investigación sobre el liderazgo ético en las organizaciones y vacíos teóricos que pueden constituir futuras líneas de estudio. La revisión bibliográfica se soporta en herramientas informáticas, como el Tree of Science, diseñadas para brindar apoyo en la búsqueda documental. Dichas tendencias se clasifican en: 1) aspectos individuales (rasgos, valores personales, estilo de liderazgo); 2) aspectos grupales (intercambio líder-seguidor, efectos en los seguidores); 3) aspectos organizacionales (cultura organizacional, grupos de interés internos) y 4) aspectos contextuales (culturas nacionales, grupos de interés externos). Se concluye que la investigación en liderazgo ético se ha centrado en la interacción del líder con sus seguidores y los efectos de dicha interacción.
